I appreciate & value your feedback, Julie. I share the story of my mother with each of you because as I tell stories about her to my two young boys (perhaps a coincidence), it reminds me that she is alive & well within me. My desire through this blog, my interactions in social media (as a whole) and through my committment to 12for12K is to share this passion with each of you...hoping just a bit will rub off:).

Thanks again for joining the conversation!

You mother was a wonderful woman, Matt! Thank you for sharing. I already joined 12for12k this month but I believe everything you say. We are put on this earth for a reason and we never know how long we will be here. I turn 53 in July and your post reminds me of how short life can be. I'm always happiest when I am helping someone else, and I know your mom must have found joy in all the projects she helped make happen. For anyone on the fence, 12for12k is a great start to giving back.

Great points and contribution, Narcisco! I would like to add that some of the most wealthy (in so many ways) are those that give back the most. Case in point - Bill Gates & Warren Buffet.

Like you, I value a "pay it forward" or "karma" lifestyle as I believe it to be the only way to truly live.

Again, thanks for carrying on this conversation!

Like it or lump it, we were not put on this earth to just hold down a job. "Well, duh!" you may say to yourself, as you think why this 'knuck knuck' is throwing out such a statement.

I say that b/c too often we (every one of us) have found ourselves identifying ourselves with our jobs. With the exception of everyday heroes like police officers, teachers or firemen/women, 'being the job' is just not what we're meant to do with our lives.

Giving back to our families, friends and communities is ultimately why we are here. This is why some of the happiest people in the world are those who give back. Now let's be serious: one of the BEST HIGHS you can get is when you put aside some time or money for someone/something outside of yourself.

This is why theatre performers get that freaky high onstage when they're doing a comedy - it's truly invigorating (I've personally experienced it and it's ROCKIN').

The 12for12K effort is just like that. Cause when you consider how life altering this effort can be, it really can be something that goes beyond invigorating - it's inspirational.
